Autochthonous of Sicily

The native vines of Sicily red berry are the Nero d'Avola (all the island), the Frappato (especially in the Ragusano), the Nerello Mascalese and the Nerello Cappuccio, the Nocera (especially in the area of Messina and Catania), the Perricone (or Pignatello) and the Calabrese. Among the native white grape varieties we mention the Grillo, the Catarratto, the Carricante, the Damaschino, the Grecanico, the Malvasia di Lipari and the Zibibbo (Moscato d'Alessandria). Inzolia, an important Sicilian vine, derives directly from Ansonica, present in Tuscany, especially in the Argentario area. Remarkable is the presence of international vines, more recently introduced, some of which, such as Syrah, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, have found in the region expressions of power and quality.
