The autochthonous vineyards of Sicily red berry are Nero d'Avola (the whole island), Frappato (especially in Ragusano), Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera (especially in the area of Messina and Catania), Perricone (Or Pignatello) and Calabrian. Among the indigenous white grape varieties we remember the Cricket, the Catarratus, the Carrier, the Damascus, the Grecanic, the Malvasia of Lipari and the Zibibbo (Moscato d'Alessandria). Inzolia, an important Sicilian vine, comes directly from the Ansonica, present in Tuscany, especially in the Argentario area. Noteworthy is the presence of internationally grown grape varieties, most recently introduced, some of which, like Syrah, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, have found expression and power in the region.
