Donnafugata born in Sicily by a family that has always believed in the extraordinary enological potential of its land and has 150 years of experience in quality wine. Giacomo Rallo and his wife, Gabriella, believe that to grow and improve we must always be open to change in 1983 giving birth to a new production plan: Donnafugata. An adventure that starts from the historic estates of Marsala and the vineyards of Contessa Entellina in the heart of western Sicily, even to land on the island of Pantelleria.
The figurehead, which in Italian is called Polena, is the unchallenged queen of marine ornaments and stands over the bow of ship. On the galleons of the 16th and 17th century, these wooden statues mainly represented female figures which brought good luck on the voyage. The magic bow accompanied sailors on their discovery of the world. Polena has once again the silhouette of a woman. It is a new wine to accompany you on the discovery of new sensations. First vintage: 2006.
Sherazade is the beautiful protagonist of the Thousand and One Nights. She must tell a new story every night to revive the Sultans interest in life, thereby delaying her execution indefinitely. An intensely Mediterranean label in lush Donnafugata style.
Gabriella was thinking of "fleeing" and beginning a new life, passing from the arts to the land. Gabriella is a woman with the wind in her hair who is never at rest. Gabriella invented La Fuga, a label that not only suggests movement but also sunshine and the land. This wine debuted along with the Contessa Entellina DOC in 1994.
Bearing the family name of Angelica, played by the fascinating Claudia Cardinale in the film "Il Gattopardo" directed by Luchino Visconti, this wine impresses the taster with its solidity and gentility. The label refers to the cellars at Contessa Entellina and the land in which this native vines roots are deeply planted.
"Vigna di Gabri" is not a fantasy name, because the wine bears the name of Gabriella, who wanted to create it and oversaw its development. She believed in its engrossing fragrance of Ansonica. The new label created for the 2004 vintage, shows the bond of Gabriella with her land and the Ansonica, one of Sicilys oldest native white grapes. First vintage: 1987.
Queen Maria Carolina, in flight from Naples, took refuge at Santa Margherita Belice in the palace shown on the label and it was the favorite residence of author Tomasi di Lampedusa. Gabriella Anca Rallo captured the image and set it in a Mille e una Notte ("Thousand and One Nights") sky dotted with stars and rich in promise.
The name is derived from the Arabic term "The Great", because the wine is made in the shadow of the imposing Ben Ryé and because this extremely delicate Moscato constantly surprises and enchants.
Wine that opens in a delicate floral and fruity aromas, which features yellow apples. The palate is dry, cool in acidity and moderate alcohol content and balanced.
The wine made its debut in 1992 as Chiarandą del Merlo from the names of the two vineyards where the Ansonica and Chardonnay grapes were grown. Ten years later the name has been simplified to Chiarandą and the label has been enriched with a female figure that suggests complexity and refinement.
The name comes from the Arabic term "Son of the Wind" because the wind sweeps constantly around the clusters on Pantelleria. And the islands winds bring with them a profusion of fragrances so intense that you can touch them.
"...ladies, knights, arms and loves?" Would that be Angelica in Orlando Furioso, who flees on the horse shown on the label? Donnafugata has many "women in flight"; each has a past in history and tradition but also, clearly, a future of softness and seduction. First vintage: 1997
The label displays the face of a woman, mysterious and fleeting, like the Elymian civilization. Anthilia is the name, given in the Roman period, to the city of Entella on the crest of the Rocca. Anthilia is also the name of a wine that is identified with the ancient territory where it originates. It is the first wine to have been conceived at Donnafugata and it remains today a special favorite of many admirers.
